The three spins now install on UEFI and boot on more hardware
We have released an update to the three CapivaraOS desktop spins — Marsh 1.2.4, Pup 1.1.8 and Snout 1.1.9 — that fixes two important installation issues. Both only showed up on real, physical machines (not in virtual machines), and testing on an old netbook helped us track down and confirm the two root causes.
Now installs on UEFI
On computers with UEFI firmware (the vast majority of hardware from recent years), the installation went almost all the way and then failed right at the end, at the bootloader step. The reason was subtle: the installer did not recognize CapivaraOS as its own profile and ended up looking for the boot files in the wrong place. CapivaraOS now identifies itself correctly to the installer, and installing on UEFI completes normally.
Boots on more machines
Once installed, on some computers the system would fail to start on the first boot and drop into an "emergency mode", complaining that it could not find the disk. This happened when the machine's storage type differed from the one used to build the image — for example, netbooks with eMMC storage. We changed how the boot image is generated so that it includes storage drivers comprehensively, and the installed system now starts on a much wider range of hardware.
How to update
If you already have CapivaraOS installed and working, there is nothing to do — these fixes apply at installation time. They matter for anyone about to install from scratch, especially on UEFI machines or machines with eMMC storage, where the install or the first boot could previously fail.
Grab the new images on the download page, always checking the SHA-256 checksum listed there. The changelog has the per-version details.
